description: this is yoga practice at it's finest! this class will help prepare you for most vinyasa/ flow based yoga classes.we will slowly, with instruction and guidance, over 12 weeks, build to an intense vinyasa (connecting breath with movement) yoga practice. as we progress, you will sweat and you will focus and you will breathe and you will not be thinking about much more than what you are doing and you will be relaxed ...REALLY relaxed by the end of class! it is a mental, physical and spiritual practice.

SPEND AN HOUR EXPERIENCING AN ACTIVE MEDITATION BY AN ACKNOWLEDGED MASTER
osho was an awakened being who spent much of his life teaching westerners how to access the deep states of consciousness that were largely unknown to us at the time of his teaching. he was provacative and controversial and his teaching could be overwhelming but he managed to create a set of meditations recorded on CD that are simple, powerful and work very well with the western mind. unlike many eastern masters, osho understood americans in a way that few other did or have since he died and these meditations are designed specially for us.
the chakra breathing meditation that we will be listening to and moving in place with (eyes closed so no one will be watching you) contains a gentle body motion, a breathing pattern and a visualization all set to the sounds of gentle guided breathing and bells. I (ron) did this one hour meditation for 40 consecutive days in 2005 and had multiple deep experiences of meditation with it.

description: Contact Improvisation is a fun way to explore our moving bodies while connecting with others. Expect to push, pull, roll, drape, perch, and more with each other. No experience is necessary—we will practice basic skills together, and you determine how far you want to take them.
Human touch is essential to a baby’s development. As a child learns to move in its environment, coming into contact with new places and objects, touch is a means for understanding it. As adults, returning to our tactile curiosity and interacting with others through physical contact in a safe space can be rewarding and inspiring!
No need to come with a partner, as we will all take turns working together. Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in, no jewelry please.
Allie received her B.A. in Dance at Hobart & William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY. She has studied ballet, tap, jazz, and hip-hop in the past, but is currently focusing on modern dance and especially enjoys contact improvisation. She currently teaches dance at the Danzante Community Arts Center in Harrisburg. Allie began practicing yoga regularly in 2008 and recently completed a 40-hour teacher training at Just Plain Yoga.

this 40 hour training is based on the primary and second series of the ashtanga vinyasa yoga system. over the course of the training you will:

learn about and how to teach the concentrative element of yoga practice

description: What activities do you engage in on a daily basis? What is your body doing while your mind is thinking about these tasks? The answers, for many of us, include sitting or standing for long periods of time and performing repetitive movements. As a result, our bodies create patterns that encourage us to continue sitting/standing/moving in the same ways. Sometimes the patterns we create overuse certain muscles and under-use others or are an inefficient use of energy, causing tension that can lead to strain, pain, and injury. A strategy for combating these undesirable results is to create balance in the body. If we become mindful and aware of what we are doing and how we are doing it, then we can choose to re-pattern ourselves where necessary and to engage in complementary activities at other times during our day. The process of bringing balance to the body often sparks inquiry into the patterns we create in all areas of our lives.
This two hour workshop is aimed toward the yoga practitioner but is appropriate for anyone interested in exploring the connections that exist (or don’t exist!) within the body to create proper alignment. We will (re)discover efficient patterns of movement and explore how they affect both our ability to move and our ability to maintain a still posture. In the process, we will find the difference between necessary and unnecessary tension and practice bringing attention to specific areas of the body.
By using the work of Irmgard Bartenieff as a guide, we will explore coordination and alignment as a result of the movement patterns we develop as children. We will use the framework of these general patterns to enter into a dialogue with the unique moving body. We will learn ways of establishing specific kinesthetic connections and practice applying them to yoga asanas so that this knowlege can be integrated into a personal practice or a class experience.

during a 6 week period we will learn about meditation by working with a very simple meditative technique and then use that experience as the basis for learning a new way to think about what meditation is and how it works. understanding the structure of meditative practice, how your mind works while it is meditating, how seemingly different meditations all come from the same place, and what you might actually experience when you are practicing greatly speeds your success. most importantly, it keeps you meditating when you encounter things that might otherwise be unexpected.
